This research aimed to provide writing skill of the fourth semester students of English department of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of UIN Alauddin Makassar by using Writing Process Approach. The problem statement were: 1). How is the writing skill of the fourth semester of English Teaching Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar before and after using writing process approach. 2). Is writing process approach effective to improve students’ writing skill in the fourth semester of English Teaching Department of UIN Alauddin Makassar?

 The objective of the research was to find out whether or not Writing Process Approach can improve the students’ writing skill. The researcher applied experimental method. The population of the research was the fourth semester students of English department in 2008/2009 which was divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 20 students and the total number population is 40 students. The writer used purposive sampling where pbi 5, 6 as controlled class and pbi 7, 8 as experimental class. The researcher distributed writing test in pre test and post test.

The result of the research showed that the fourth semester had fair score in pre test. After treatment, their writing aspect significantly increased. The data analyzed using t-test showed that the value of t-test which was lower than the value of t-table (0.76<2,021). It can be said that writing process approach  was effective in improving students writing skill.
