Teaching Vocabulary through Morphological Analysis

ABSTRACT

Title                   : Teaching Vocabulary through Morphological Analysis at the Elementary Class of New Generation Club (NGC) Makassar

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not the use of Morphological Analysis can improve the students vocabulary of the Elementary Class of New Generation Club (NGC).
This research employed experimental method with one group pretest and posttest design. There were two variables, namely independent variable (the use of morphological analysis technique) and dependent variable (students’ vocabulary improvement).

The population of this research was the elementary class of New Generation Club (NGC) which consisted of 40 students. The sample of the research consisted of 40 students which were taken by using total sampling, 20 students were taken as experimental class and 20 students were taken as controlled class.
The instrument of this research was a written vocabulary used in pretest and posttest. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ posttest in experimental class and controlled class.  The mean score of posttest (80.1) in experimental class was greater than the mean score of posttest (68) in controlled class and the standard deviation of posttest (12.35) in experimental class was greater than the standard deviation of posttest in controlled class (8.63). From t-test, the researcher found that the value of t-test (3.59) was greater than t-table (2.021) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df) = 38.
Based on the finding and discussion of the research, the researcher drawn a conclusion that the use of morphological analysis technique improves the students’ vocabulary of the elementary class of New Generation Club (NGC) Makassar.
