The purpose of this research was to
improve the vocabulary mastery of the second year students of SMP Negeri 3 Kahu
by using whispering game.
The method used was pre-experimental
with pre-test and post-test design. The sample was the second year students of
SMP Negeri 3 Kahu academic year 2009/2010 with 27 students. The instrument of
this research was vocabulary test and used to know whether the students’
vocabulary mastery improved after giving treatment.
After
several meetings, this research found out the use of whispering game
significantly effective to improve the students’ ability in memorizing
vocabulary. The result of this research was (1) the mean score obtained by
students through pre-test was 65.3 and post-test
was 77,4 (2) the t-test value was higher than t-table (8.5 > 2.056). It means that this is a
significant difference between the result of the students’ pre-test and
post-test. Therefore, hypothesis H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted.
Based
on the data analysis, it was concluded that the students’ vocabulary mastery
improved by using whispering game method.
