Use Simple Present and Simple Past Tenses Through Egra Method

Present and Simple Past Tenses Through Egra Method (A classroom action research at the second class of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa), under the thesis of English Education
Department the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, University of Muhammadiya Makassar (guided by Prof. Dr. H. Abd Muis Ba’dulu, Ms and St Asriati, S.Pd. M.Hum).
This research aimed to explain the
improvement of the students’ English tense ability
in terms
of simple present and simple past tense in positive,
negative, and interrogative sentence.
To explain the improvement, the
researcher used a classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles
in which every cycle consisted of four meetings. The place
of this research was taken at the second class of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa with a number
of the subjects were 34 students.
The research findings indicated that
the implementation of Egra method is
significant to improve the students’ English tense ability
in terms
of simple present and simple past tense in
positive, negative, and interrogative sentence. It was proved
by the mean score of cycle I is 64.35 then
improved to be
85.23
in cycle II. They were higher than the mean score of diagnostic test namely 47.12. Therefore,
there is the improvement of the students’ English tense ability terms of simple present tense and simple past tense
in positive, negative, and interrogative statement. Implementation of EGRA
method also improved the students’ activeness in teaching and learning process.
It was proved by the activeness score of cycle I was
34.18%
become 64.15%
in Cycle II, and the improvement the students activeness from cycle I to cycle II
was
29.97%.
therefore, there was
improvement of students’ activeness in teaching and learning process with using
EGRA method.
